Ron Hawkins is known to his legion of fans in Buffalo as one of the founders of the famed Canadian band Lowest of the Low. He's also an accomplished artist. And this weekend, a show titled "Art and Music" takes place in Buffalo. Friday night, 26 portraits of musicians painted by Hawkins will be displayed at the new Vault gallery at Main and Tupper Streets.
Hawkins will follow this exhibit of art with a performance of music from his new CD "Ten Kinds of Lonely" Saturday night at 8:00 at the Allendale Theatre. The album is about small town life in his native Ontario. Hawkins says it was recorded in his basement studio all by himself last winter.
After playing before huge crowds with Lowest of the Low, Hawkins says this concert will be much more intimate. And he's likely to find a welcoming audience from a city that has long embraced him.
