Buffalo, NY – Buffalo has been designated as a national travel destination for authentic African American tourism in the US. Local tourism officials say the designation will help the city attract more tourist and convention business.
Buffalo is the second city to receive this distinction from the Travel Professionals of Color. Detroit was the first.
Buffalo Niagara Convention and Visitors Bureau President Richard Geiger says this is very exciting news. He says the city has the right product to help the region promote multi-cultural destinations.
Over the summer the Travel Professionals of Color visited the city to learn about Buffalo's African American heritage. Dionne Williamson, the multicultural sales manager at the CVB, says the city met the criteria for the travel distinction. She says many groups are very surprised at what Buffalo has to offer.
This year, the CVB expects to book up to 60 future conventions involving African American and multi-cultural groups. In May of next year the Travel Professionals of Color will hold their annual conference in Buffalo.
