Buffalo Ended Year with Fewer Homicides

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Buffalo ended the year with fewer homicides than in 2006. But just a few hours into 2008 and a new murder was recorded.

23 year old Nathan Beaver became the first homicide of 2008 in the Queen City. He was shot in an alley along Joslyn Place and died at ECMC just after 4 on New Year's morning. But a suspect is under arrest. 19 year old Jeramy Luscher was charged with 2nd degree murder.

Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards says the suspect turned himself in to Police Tuesday night. Richards says the two men got into a fight. The suspect went into his home, grabbed a gun and shot the victim. But Richards could not say what sparked the fight.

The City ended 2007 with 55 murders, down from 2006, when 74 homicides were recorded. Richards says the reduction is significant accomplishment.
