190 Tolls in Buffalo Come Down

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – No toll signs are now posted at two barriers along the I-190 in the City of Buffalo. The signs went up before Noon on Monday after the New York State Thruway Authority board approved a plan to eliminate the Buffalo tolls.

Drivers no longer need to dole out .75 in tolls along the Niagara section of the 190 at Black Rock and at the Ogden toll barriers. The state senate managed to come up with $14 million in reimbursements from economic development funds to give to the Thruway Authority. This will cover the loss from tolls for the first year.

But Thruway Authority division director William Leslie says this is the first step in ending the city tolls forever. The next step is to physically remove the toll barriers. That is expected to begin sometime next year by the Thruway Authority. For now drivers are being urged to obey the 25-mile an hour speed limit as they approach both toll plazas.
