Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross is launching a new disaster preparedness campaign.
Officials say it directs people to a website that has information for area residents on how best to prepare for disasters and emergencies. They say people need to have an emergency plan in place and at least a three-day supply of food, water and medicines on hand.
Buffalo Fire Commissioner Michael Lombardo says the Red Cross also offers special training in first aid and CPR.
"The training that will be provided in this initiative will help prepare people to survive an incident until emergency services arrive," Lombardo said.
Lombardo says a disaster, whether natural or man-made, can strike suddenly. Billboards throughout the region are starting to appear this month alerting the public of the new website, preparewny.org
