Marketing Expert Not Surprised by Bon-Ton's Decision to Leave Walden Galleria

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The Bon-Ton shook up the local retailing industry this week with an announcement that it is closing its Walden Galleria store.

For The Bon-Ton, the decision means it will no longer have a presence at the region's busiest shopping mall. For the Walden Galleria, the closing will leave a huge void at one end of the mall.

Officials at The Bon-Ton say the decision was made to close the Galleria store because it was no longer performing to expectations. But a local retailing analyst says there may be more to the closing.
