Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced two senior appointments to her administration.

Kathryn Garcia will serve as Director of State Operations, while and Neysa Alsina serves as Special Advisor on Pandemic Relief. Both women are from New York City.

Garcia was New York's Commissioner of Sanitation, the City's Lead Czar, and interim Chair of its Housing Authority. During the pandemic, Garcia also served as the COVID-19 Food Czar. In June, she lost the Democratic primary to be mayor of New York.

Neysa Alsina previously served as chief counsel to the New York City Comptroller, Senior Policy Advisor to Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez in Washington, and Counsel to the New York City Bar Association.

Garcia and Alsina continue Hochul's appointment of Big Apple women to top posts. Last week, she tapped longtime city politicos Karen Persichilli Keogh and Elizabeth Fine to serve as her secretary and counsel, respectively.
