The 2022 Atlantic Super Regional Rugby Fest will take place this weekend at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. It is expected to draw spectators from around the Northeast.
The Empire Geographic Union is the host of this regional tournament, which will feature the top 24 men’s and women’s teams from Empire GU, plus New England, Eastern Penn and Capital GUs. The Buffalo Rugby Club, which dates back to 1966 and which has been based in Delaware Park since 1968, is one of the Empire GU teams.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and admission is free.
The tournament has been compared to the NCAA college basketball tournament Sweet 16, with the four winners advancing to the national finals in Atlanta next month.
In exhibition high school action, the Hamburg and Kenmore girls’ teams will play on Saturday, and the Canisius High School and Kenmore boys’ teams match up on Sunday.
