The Buffalo Bills have traded starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the first pick in the third round in the upcoming NFL draft.
The biggest question facing the Buffalo Bills during this off-season is what to do with the quarterback position. Some speculation ended with the trade of Tyrod Taylor on Friday, but that move invites even more theories. Having a new general manager and head coach lends even more uncertainty to what the team will do.
"Beyond the Playbook" correspondent Matt Sabuda believes the trade now gives the Bills the currency needed to move up in the draft to target one of the highly touted quarterback prospects.
"If the Bills trade the 21st, the 22nd, and their newly acquired 65th overall pick which is the first pick in the third round, that's enough for them to get up to the number or five pick in this years draft," said Sabuda.
Sabuda expressed surprise that the Bills received this much value in the trade. This leaves Nathan Peterman as the lone quarterback on the team's roster.
Taylor never gained the confidence of fans or team management in the starting role, though he did lead the team to the playoffs last season, ending a 17-year post season drought.
The free agency market opens on Wednesday, lending even more interest to what moves the team might make. The trade opens more than $10 million in cap room, giving the team greater flexibility to pursue free agents.
