UB Athletics Director leaving for Alabama

University at Buffalo

Reports out of Alabama say Auburn has found its next athletic director - in Buffalo.

Allen Greene, who has served as the University at Buffalo's athletic director for the past two years, will be hired at Auburn pending approval of the school's board of trustees, according to multiple reports.

The 40-year-old Greene served as deputy athletic director and a senior associate athletic director at UB under Danny White - now the AD at UCF - for three years and has an accomplished background in fundraising.

The reports credit Greene with raising funds for a to-be-built $18 million indoor practice facility - which had been discussed for nearly 20 years - other capital projects, landing an apparel deal with Nike and leading the development of a facilities master plan.

Late Thursday afternoon, UB confirmed the departure in a statement from President Satish Tripathi.

"I am writing to share the news that Director of Athletics Allen Greene will be leaving UB to accept a position as Athletics Director at Auburn University," Tripathi said. "While we are sorry to see Allen leave UB and Western New York, I speak for our entire UB community—and for Bulls fans everywhere—when I say how grateful we are for his exemplary leadership and success in elevating UB’s Athletics Department."

Tripathi praised Greene's "productive tenure" at the university, including seven MAC Tournament trophies and advancement to as many NCAA tournaments. On Friday, he said UB will receive the NCAA and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association’s 2018 Award for Diversity and Inclusion, "a recognition of the Athletics Department’s impactful initiatives aimed at creating an inclusive environment in athletics, on campus and in the community."

"These achievements and more speak to Allen’s strategic and thoughtful efforts to create a well-rounded intercollegiate program that strives for excellence in all of its pursuits, and enriches our university community in so doing," Tripathi continued. "Thanks to his leadership, our Athletics Department is extremely well positioned to build upon our strengths and compete among the best in the nation."
