Beyond the Playbook: Patriots stand between the Bills and the playoffs

With victories the next two Sundays, the Buffalo Bills would qualify for the playoffs for the first time since the 1999 season. Analyst Matt Sabuda, however, provides some sobriety to the holiday exuberance in highlighting the difficulty of the Bills winning Sunday's road game in New England. Still, for those of us longing for a post-season present, Sabuda lays out a scenario in which the Bills lose Sunday, but still make the playoffs.

Sabuda calls it a "simple yet challenging scenario." Bills followers can look for the following results this weekend:

"If the Bills lose to New England, but the Colts beat the Ravens in Baltimore and the Jets beat the Chargers at home, the Bills would control their playoff destiny with a win over Miami in the final week regardless of what happens in any other games."

A long shot? Sure. But for a fan base fueled on hope, it offers the perfect holiday gift.
