Sabres acquire defenseman from Canadiens

WBFO File Photo

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Nathan Beaulieu from the Montreal Canadiens for a 2017 3rd round pick.

This comes with a roster freeze taking place today at 3 PM before the expansion and NHL drafts taking place later this week.

Beaulieu opened the season on Montreal's opening line before falling down on the depth chart throughout the year. He was a healthy scratch in the Canadiens final playoff game of the year, but also set career highs in goals (4) and points (28) during the regular season.

Beaulieu was a first round pick (17th overall) in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Following this trade, the Sabres have seven picks in the 2017 NHL draft.
