Speaking at a roundtable discussion on sports ownership, Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula said the team has no sense of urgency to leave its current Orchard Park facility for a new venue.
Pegula, who along with his wife Kim bought the Bills last year, made the remark during a forum hosted at Buffalo Riverworks on Thursday.
Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the Bills currently play and are under lease, underwent $130 million in renovations that were completed last year. Pegula acknowledged the dollars New York State and Erie County contributed toward the stadium work.
"How foolish would you look if you start looking around for a new stadium when we've just renovated the one we have?" said Pegula. "We have time."
National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell previously stated that the Bills need a new stadium. But adding to Pegula's thoughts was team president Russ Branson, who said the team does not even have a timetable for beginning their exploration for a new space.
"The lease affords us time, which affords you time to make informed decisions," he said.
The Bills' lease at Ralph Wilson Stadium runs through 2022.
