Sabres on defensive streak in day two of NHL Draft

On the second day of the 2015 NHL Draft in Sunrise, Florida, the Buffalo Sabres picked up five new players, including a run of defenseman.The day started with defenseman Brendan Guhle (6’2”, 184 lbs., 7/29/1997) joining the team in the second round. The Alberta native was the 51st overall pick of the draft, coming to Buffalo from the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.

The fourth round saw Buffalo select William Borgen (6’1”, 189 lbs., 12/19/1996) as the 92nd overall pick. The young defenseman has spent most of his career playing high school hockey in Moorhead Minnesota, along with a stint in the United States Hockey League’s Omaha Lancers. He’s due to head to Saint Cloud State’s hockey team in the fall.

Another defenseman, Devante Stephens (6’1”, 171 lbs., 1/2/1997) of the Western Hockey League’s Kelowna Rockets, was taken on by the Sabres in the fifth round, being picked 122nd overall.

The Sabres changed up their selection streak in the sixth round, with Center Giorgio Estephan (6’0”, 188 lbs., 2/3/1997), the 152nd overall pick. Estephan comes from the Western Hockey League’s Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Last in the day was defenseman Ivan Chukarov (6’2”, 190 lbs., 4/3/1995) of the North American Hockey League’s Minnesota Wilderness who was the 182nd overall in the seventh round. Chukarov is committed to the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
