Sabres swing major trade, acquire O'Reilly from Avs

nhl.com

June 26, 2015 is a day Sabres will remember for a long time. Along with drafting highly-touted prospect Jack Eichel, the team pulled off a big trade with the Colorado Avalanche that has star forward Ryan O'Reilly coming to Buffalo.Heading to Colorado in the deal are forwards Mikhail Grigorenko and JT Compher, defenseman Nikita Zadorov, and the 31st overall pick in the 2015 Draft. Winger Jamie McGinn comes to Buffalo as part of the trade.

O'Reilly, a 24-year-old Canadian, tallied 90 goals and 246 points over five seasons in Colorado. Last season he had 55 points in 82 games.

Girgorenko was drafted 12th overall by Buffalo in the 2012 draft. He had little success in limited stints in the NHL. The bigger piece heading west is Zadorov, a big-bodied 2013 draft pick with high upside.

Earlier in the day, the Sabres acquired their new starting goaltender, Robin Lehner, and veteran forward David Legwand from Ottawa in exchange for the 21st overall pick in this year's draft.
