A longtime 3-on-3 basketball tournament that ran for many years in downtown Buffalo is returning to Erie County for the first time in two years.Local promoter Corey McGowan made the announcement Thursday morning, not far from where the games will be played. A section of Grand Island Boulevard will be closed between Whitehaven and Baseline roads to accommodate this year's tournament.
Also on hand was "Gus Macker" himself, tournament owner Scott McNeal. He explained that after plans fell through at Darien Lake, where last year's event was hosted, McGowan reached out to him.
"It fits the feel. We're glad to be on the street," said McNeal. "It's a real nice setting for what Gus Macker will be for years and years here in Grand Island."
Gus Macker has signed a three-year deal to play on Grand Island. This year's tournament will be played on August 29 and 30.
