Less than a month after leading UB to its first appearance in the NCAA basketball tournament, head coach Bobby Hurley is leaving to take the head job at Arizona State.
Nate Oats will serve as Buffalo's interim head basketball coach while the Bulls look for a replacement for Hurley.
Oats was Hurley's top assistant and recruiting coordinator the past two seasons, helping the Bulls make their first NCAA Tournament appearance this year.
Before coming to Buffalo, Oats was the head coach at Romulus High School in Michigan for 11 seasons, leading the team to a 27-1 record and a state title in 2012-13.
Arizona State recently fired its longtime coach Herb Sendak after nine seasons.
