'Behind The Bench': The philosophy behind losing

Two of the worst teams in the National Hockey League play in Buffalo Thursday night. The Sabres take on Arizona at First Niagara Center.  In this week's edition of Behind the Bench, Sabres beat reporter Bill Hoppe tells WBFO's Eileen Buckley it should be an interesting matchup.

"It could be a very wild atmosphere," said Hoppe. "I think the atmosphere inside the First Niagara Center could just be perhaps the oddest it has ever been in the 19 or so years the building has been open. The Sabres are obviously in 30th place, the Coyotes are in 29th."

Hoppe noted that the philosophy behind the losing is to capture a top draft pick this June.

"A lot of fans want the  Sabres to lose," noted Hoppe.

Hoppe said Sabres coach Ted Nolan was asked about the game on Wednesday and that Nolan responded by telling reporters he can't control what other people do, adding 'Who wants to finish last?'
