Listen: Rex Ryan introduced as new Bills head coach

Jerry Urban/WBFO News

The Buffalo Bills held an introductory press conference Wednesday with Rex Ryan, who was hired on Monday to succeed Doug Marrone as the team's head coach.

Ryan, owner Terry Pegula, general manager Doug Whaley, and team president Russ Brandon fielded questions from reporters for nearly an hour from the ADPRO Sports Training Center next to Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Ryan said he's "blessed and fortunate" to be named the new coach of the Buffalo Bills.  After 15 years of the Bills missing the playoffs, Ryan promised not "to let our fans down." He said the Bills "will be ready" come September.

After being fired by the New York Jets at the end of the season, Ryan said he still feels a need to prove himself.

"You do the best job you can.  I used to tell my players... if you want a little more, you'll get it," Ryan said.  "The Buffalo Bills are going to get a little more from me."

Wednesday's news conference marked Pegula's first public appearance since former coach Doug Marrone stepped down on New Year's Eve.  Pegula admitted he was "shocked" by Marrone's decision.

But now the Bills owner said he's excited about the future.  He said Ryan will make the Bills a team that will be a "nightmare to play against."
