Sabres' Jeanneret, now cancer-free, returning to work

File photo

Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame broadcaster Rick Jeanneret says he is cancer-free and will start transitioning back into the broadcast booth on a limited basis beginning Saturday.  Jeanneret was treated for throat cancer in early September. He will call the first period of Saturday's Sabres/Maples Leafs game, which has a 7 p.m. start from Buffalo's First Niagara Center.

In a statement, Jeanneret expressed his gratitude for the well-wishes he has received, saying the community's show of support has been "overwhelming."

“The time seems right to slowly begin transitioning back to work,” Jeanneret said.

“My doctors have told me I’m cancer free and I’m feeling well enough to get back in the booth, even if it’s only on a limited basis for the time being. The kindness and well-wishes from everyone, especially Sabres fans and the Western New York community, has been overwhelming and I’m truly grateful for the tremendous support during this process.”
