A new stadium will likely be the next big topic of conversation surrounding the Buffalo Bills now that the sale of the team to Terry and Kim Pegula has been approved by NFL Owners. One authority on sports management says the Pegulas may have given Buffalo fans just what they needed - stability and viability.
Buffalo sports fans have long worried about losing their beloved Bills to another city. SUNY Cortland Sports Management Professor Ted Fay notes the $1.4-billion price the Pegulas are paying for the team, saying they obviously mean business, which he says is good news for Buffalo and the NFL.
"They're an iconic franchise. They're certainly an historic AFC Franchise but certainly a very iconic - what I call the hearty rust belt old school football perception that the NFL desperately needs to hold on to," said Fay.
Fay said there are more pros than cons that come with the Pegulas now owning both the Bills and the Sabres. He notes having one owner for two professional sports teams in the same city is a clear sign the Pegulas want to continue to invest in Buffalo.
Fay adds the Pegula's greatest challenge now may be restoring the team's competitiveness back to the time when they made four consecutive Superbowl appearances.
