Press Pass: Buffalo rises in response to COVID-19 pandemic

Born and raised in the city, Buffalo Rising contributor Vilona Trachtenberg possesses "a lot of pride for Buffalo." When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the region, Trachtenberg worked to highlight some of the many community efforts aimed at lifting spirits and helping healthcare workers.

From high schoolers delivering sucker bouquets to nurses to  Just Buffalo Literary Center's Sidewalk Poetry campaign to the BPO's inspiring stay-at-home performanceof Stravinsky's "The Firebird," Trachtenberg sees a common theme in her stories: "People in Buffalo are really stepping up."

She discussed her work Tuesday on WBFO's Press Pass.

Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 10 a.m.

Jay joined Buffalo Toronto Public Media in 2008 and has been local host for NPR's "Morning Edition" ever since. In June, 2022, he was named one of the co-hosts of WBFO's "Buffalo, What's Next."

Outside of public media, he continues in longstanding roles as the public address announcer for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and as play-by-play voice of Canisius College basketball.
