Walton misses deadline for Working Party mayoral nomination

Activist India Walton's bid to run for mayor of Buffalo has been dealt a severe setback.

Erie County elections officials ruled Thursday that Walton's campaign failed to meet deadlines for accepting the Working Families party nomination.

Erie County Democratic Chairman Jeremy Zellner, who is also Democratic commissioner of the county Board of Elections, said Walton is still on the ballot for the Democratic party primary in June, where four-term incumbent Byron Brown is seen as the overwhelming favorite.

Walton said the ballot qualification process is "complex and arduous" for people like her who are not normally involved in politics.
