Two more local lawmakers have announced they tested positive for the coronavirus.
State Assemblymember Joseph Giglio, who represents all of Cattaraugus and Allegany counties and part of Steuben County in the Southern Tier's 148th district, has announced that he and his wife Ann have both tested positive for COVID-19.
Giglio took a test after experiencing mild flu-like symptoms. He said in a release that the couple is self-isolating at home and noted that he has been working remotely for several weeks, carrying out his legislative duties via Zoom and conference calls.
Jamestown Mayor Eddie Sundquist also announced he tested positive for the virus.
In a statement, he said that he woke up Monday with a fever and cough and received a positive result after scheduling a rapid test.
He will remain in isolation and work remotely until given medical clearance to return. He also will be working with the Chautauqua County Health Department in contact tracing.

City of Olean mayor William Aiello has announced the resignation of the city's Fourth Ward Alderman, Kevin Dougherty. Aiello is encouraging residents of the 4th Ward who might be interested in filling the vacant position to contact his office by letter or email by 5pm next Monday, February 8th.

Chautauqua County Executive P. J. Wendel and the county's Covid-19 response team have announced a recognition program to highlights the outstanding work of people working on the frontlines of the pandemic response. Nominees for the Covid-19 Heroes recognition may be submitted through a form on the county's web site's information page, at C-H-Q-G-O-V dot com, and may include first responders, nuirses or units at a hospital or nursing home, or any other essential worker in the pandemic fight. Weekly videos and a note of thanks from Wendel on behalf of Chautauqua County residents will be featured for those being recognized.
