Two local Republican congressmen released separate statements Wednesday, vowing to work with newly-sworn-in President Joe Biden and his administration to help move the country forward.

Congressman Chris Jacobs of New York’s 57th District wished Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris well in leading the nation and said he is committed to working in the best interests of Western New Yorkers, while also calling for unity:

“This a time for our nation to come forward and unite. It is not time for partisan agenda items, but actionable solutions that directly address the serious needs of the American people,” Jacobs said.

The Orchard Park Republican supported former President Donald Trump’s re-election bid, even going as far as objecting to the certifications of electors in swing states that voted in Biden for President, a last-ditch effort in early January to hand the presidency back to Donald Trump despite Trump’s losses in both the Electoral College and popular vote.

Reed, representing the 26th District, released a statement as part of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a bi-partisan group which he co-chairs. Reed also supported Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.

His statement also called for unity during “historic circumstances” which “have left the country vulnerable and divided.” Due to the narrow divisions in both the House and the Senate, the caucus said the best way to enact legislation to help the country grow is with bi-partisan solutions.
