Lockport alderwoman announces resignation

LinkedIn

An alderwoman in the City of Lockport is resigning.

Kelly VanDeMark, who serves the 4th Ward, unveiled a letter of resignation Wednesday that she submitted to Lockport Mayor Michelle Roman, dated Sept. 15. The letter sets a resignation effective date of Oct. 23.

Roman kept the letter a secret at the request of VanDeMark, who wanted to inform her colleagues of the news in person. Roman, who is a Democrat, will appoint a Republican to the position, since that was the party affiliation of VanDeMark.

She was originally appointed to the post by Republican Mayor David Wohleben in 2018 and was elected four months later.

VanDeMark, who is moving out of the city, added that Roman has already interviewed candidates for her replacement.

Mark Wozniak, WBFO's local All Things Considered host, has been at WBFO since mid-1978.
