Mychajliw joins Republican race for NY-27

votestefan.com

After months of speculation, Erie County Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw made it official Tuesday. He is running for Congress. The Republican has established a campaign website asking voters in New York's 27th Congressional District to "send Trump an ally."

"We need uncompromising conservatives to stand with him to Keep America Great by fighting for a secure border, fair trade policies and economic solutions that continue record-setting results," he says. "Simply put, we cannot rely on self-dealing Albany moderates who only support President Trump when it’s politically convenient."

Mychajliw's announcement comes just days after former NY-27 representative Chris Collins was sentenced for insider trading. A special election to fill the now-vacant federal seat is likely to be held April 28.

Also vying for the Republican line of the ballot are state senators Chris Jacobs and Rob Ortt and attorney Beth Parlato.

Former Grand Island Supervisor Nate McMurray is the only Democrat in the race. United Way Director of Education Melodie Baker announced a run in early December, but withdrew before the year's end.
