Erie County Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams has won the Democratic nomination for Buffalo City Comptroller.
Monday night's vote by the party's executive committee chose the first African American woman to chair the Erie County Legislature to fill the opening left by Democrat Mark Schroeder, who has been appointed chief of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
"I have spent much of my life standing up for the City of Buffalo because I love its people and believe in its future," Miller Williams said. "That future depends upon fiscally responsible policies and a firm understanding of the needs of city government and the citizens it represents. I am honored by this nomination and excited about beginning the next chapter."
Miller-Williams is a U.S. Army veteran, retired Buffalo Police officer, former Ellicott District Common Councilmember and currently chairs the Legislature's Finance and Management Committee.
She is just the latest name thrown into the comptroller hat, as the position must be filled on an interim basis by the end of April.
Buffalo Common Councilmembers will be discussing applicants and selecting an appointment during a meeting Tuesday at 11 a.m.
