Multiple broadcast reports Friday suggested the Erie County Republican Committee is leaning toward Lynne Dixon as their choice to challenge County Executive Mark Poloncarz in his re-election bid this fall. However, GOP leadership and the lawmaker herself say no decision has been made.
The reports suggesting Dixon is a frontrunner for the GOP's endorsement cite unnamed sources.
Dixon, in a message to WBFO, acknowledges she is among several people mentioned as possibilities, and calls that an honor, but suggests it's "business as usual" at this time.
Since 2009, Dixon has served as an Erie County Legislator representing the 9th District, a territory which includes Hamburg, Lackawanna and parts of South Buffalo. Prior to that role, she worked for more than 20 years in local radio and television journalism.
She is a registered Independent but historically has caucused with the Legislature's Republicans and Conservatives.
Erie County Republican Committee Chairman Nick Langworthy, in a text message to WBFO, says no decisions have been made and that the party has several very-qualified candidates under consideration.
