Cheektowaga councilman nominated to succeed Burke in county legislature

Town of Cheektowaga

Democrats have nominated Cheektowaga Town Councilman Timothy Meyers to succeed Patrick Burke in the Erie County Legislature’s 7th District.

Burke was elected to the New York State Assembly in November. County legislature will now appoint his replacement based on the nomination.

"This is where I’ve lived all my life and where I raised my family, and I want to make sure that my children have the opportunity to raise theirs here as well," Burke said in a statement. “As a member of Town Council, I’ve worked hard to protect taxpayers and put working families first, and those will be my guiding principles as the representative for the people of the 7th District.”

Meyers, 57, is Airfield Supervisor at the Niagara Falls International Airport and a 39-year veteran of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.

He is a member of Teamsters Local 264 and a past officer for International Longshoreman's Association Local 1949.

He was first elected to the Town Council in 2013 and has also served as Deputy Supervisor.
