Political operatives plead guilty to election law violations

In the end, their guilty pleas were for misdemeanor charges. But the cases involving Kristy Mazurek and David Pfaff may have a wider impact. "I have been writing about these kinds of things for 25 years," said Buffalo News Political Reporter Bob McCarthy. "And, finally, they're now coming home to roost." As McCarthy points out, prosecutors have often overlooked suspicions of illegal campaign coordination. In the cases of Pfaff and Mazurek--and their connection with Steve Pigeon--it took the state Attorney General to pursue the case.

A graduate of St. Mary's of the Lake School, St. Francis High School and Buffalo State College, Jay has worked most of his professional career in Buffalo. Outside of public media, he continues in longstanding roles as the public address announcer for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League and as play-by-play voice of Canisius College basketball.
