New Williamsville Mayor Daniel DeLano says there is work to do in the village - and he is ready to take it on. DeLano was officially sworn in Friday morning, replacing Brian Kulpa, who takes over as Amherst supervisor on Monday.

Kulpa was in the audience at the Williamsville Village Hall for the swearing in ceremony. He was elected in November to fill the top position in Amherst for the retiring Dr. Barry Weinstein.

The new Williamsville mayor is a professional musician and construction worker.

"I moved here in September and in October they handed me a shovel and said, 'Let's go build a playground ' and that's where it started," Delano said about his entry into politics. "That's where the relationships began."

DeLano said the Village Board will be working together to continue changes in the village, especially preparing a new master plan.

"We have a few things to update, such as the community plan," he said, "and a few tweaks here and there, you know, we have a variety of traffic issues that have to be addressed and I have full confidence in this board that we'll be able to get this done."

DeLano had been deputy mayor. As he moves to mayor, DeLano appointed structural engineer Matthew Etu to fill the deputy position.
