Now that the winners of the New York Primary have been determined, leaders of both major political parties will focus on preparing a roster of delegates for their respective national conventions.
Registered Democratic voters chose not only a presidential candidate but also candidates to serve as delegates at the party's national convention in Philadelphia in July.
While recently explaining the Democratic ballot for this year's primary, Erie County Democratic Election Commissioner Len Lenihan explained how the Democratic delegates, once identified, will be aligned in an order based on alternating gender.
"There's a process put on by the state Democratic party that starts in the 1st Congressional District, and they're chosen by lot," he said.
Republicans, meanwhile, did not identify delegates on their primary ballot. That will be determined next month in a meeting among chosen representatives from each State Assembly district, one male and one female from each district.
"They will get together at a meeting in May and cast a weighted vote and decide, in convention-style format, and cast votes for slates of delegates to represent their congressional district," explained Erie County Republican Committee Chairman Nick Langworthy. "There are three alternates and three delegates per congressional district."
When asked if he might be one of those presenting a nomination at the GOP Convention in Cleveland this July, Langworthy responded, "I intend to be one of them."
