Update your calendars. The Trump for President rally at First Niagara Center is moving to Monday, April 18 at 7 p.m., instead of Sunday, April 17.Erie County Republican Party Chair Nick Langworthy tells WBFO there were some logistical issues because of an event at First Niagara Center, but more importantly, the Trump campaign wanted to have Trump's largest event in New York be the last event before people vote in the state's primary. Langworthy said this also will put the most attention on Buffalo locally and nationally.
Several Republican Party leaders have refused to support Trump, regardless of the popular vote. Polls show Trump is leading his competitors by a wide margin ahead of next Tuesday’s New York Primary. Congressman Tom Reed, a Trump supporter, says this election cycle has been unpredictable, putting all of the candidates in unchartered waters.
"I think it's critical that we listen to the people and that the people drive the outcome of this primary election process, and that we don't succumb to that insider-D.C. mindset where they think they know best and can turn their backs on the people." The Southern Tier congressman has been named to Trump’s leadership team in New York State.
Republican Ted Cruz is expected to be in the area later this week and John Kasich could make a local appearance before the primary, as well.
