The 2016 New York State Republican Convention will be held in downtown Buffalo. State GOP Chairman Ed Cox made the announcement Tuesday at Erie County GOP headquarters. Cox says next month's event is especially exciting because it falls before New York's primary.
"Republicans from all over the state will be coming to Buffalo for this convention and we have also invited to the convention the presidential candidates and/or their representatives to present to the convention. That's looking forward to our April 19 primary...where New York state's 95 delegates will be up for grabs," Cox said.
Cox says the convention at HarborCenter on March 4 will be "a major gathering." He says he expects a large turnout, including 456 Republican committee members.
The state chairman says the last presidential election that New York played an important role was in 2000.
