File photo

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III has announced his candidacy for State Supreme Court justice.Sedita announced his plans during a meeting with his staff Thursday morning.

According to political observers, the Democrat is basically guaranteed to win the fourteen year term in November's election because of cross-endorsements.

Similar endorsements from both Democrats and Republicans are also expected for Emilio Colaiacovo, who will likely be the Republican candidate

Judicial nominating conventions are expected to be held by both major parties later this month.

Sedita, who has been Erie County district attorney since 2008, told his staff this morning about his judicial ambitions.

If elected, the judges would each earn $174,000 per year.
