The woman who just last week announced she was pulling out of a State Senate race after admitting to an extramarital affair says she is now back in. Gia Arnold has re-entered her Republican campaign for the 62nd Senate District seat being vacated by longtime Senator George Maziarz.
Arnold, a 24-year-old mother of three, says she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support she received after announcing her exit on August 13 in the form of hundreds of calls, texts and emails.
"I did not consider re-entering this primary and election, but with the support that has been shown, and the urging of so many I have met during this long campaign, I have decided to continue this effort," Arnold said in a statement Friday.
Arnold, from Holley in Orleans County, faces North Tonawanda Mayor Robert Ortt in next month's GOP primary. The winner will take on Democrat Johnny Destino in the November election.
The 62nd District includes all of Niagara and Orleans counties, as well as part of Monroe County.
