Another candidate has entered this fall's congressional race in New York's 26th District. Buffalo businessman Emin "Eddie" Egriu announced his campaign on the City's East Side Monday afternoon. Egriu will challenge incumbent Brian Higgins in this fall's Democratic primary. He says the much-touted development on Buffalo's waterfront is "a painted picture."
"We're looking at progress at the waterfront and we're claiming that victory is finally here and we're abandoning the rest of the communities. I think our existing congressman is so entrenched that he's not looking outside of those two square miles downtown," Egriu told WBFO News.
Egriu says he is anti-war, supports universal single payer healthcare, and the legalization of marijuana for adults. But he says he is conservative on "issues that matter."
"We do have too much government," he says. "We're continuously opening jobs that are governmentally funded, taxpayer-funded."
Just last week, former radio talk show host Kathy Weppner announced her Republican campaign.
The 26th District covers parts of Erie and Niagara counties, including the cities of Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
