Citizens groups demand campaign finance reforms in Albany

WBFO News photos by Eileen Buckley

Citizen groups continue putting pressure on Albany to clean up campaign financing. The rally cry was "people not profit" in front of Buffalo's City Hall Thursday.

Members of the New York Interest Research Group and the League of Women Voters were the latest group to rally outside Buffalo's City Hall.

NYPRIG released a long list of local members of the state legislature who raised nearly two-million dollars in 2012 from lobbyists and their clients.

Bill Mahoney is with NYPRIG. Mahoney says some bills in the state legislature appear to be influenced by contributors including big donors with interest in hydro-fracking.

"Often and in many cases, it is things that have not been past," said Mahoney.  "For example, Senator Grisanti chairs chairs the Environmental Conservation Committee.  He's gotten a lot of big checks from some of the hydrofracking interests.

But it appears all the Western New York members of the legislature were named in the campaign contribution listing.

The contributions are not illegal, but the citizen organizations says campaign finance reform is very important
