Local democrat reacts to Romney remarks
Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney's statements about nearly half the population are "improper" according to one local lawmaker.
Romney's comments about not having to worry about 47-percent of Americans who, as he put it, believe they are victims, are inappropriate according to Rep. Kathy Hochul.
Hochul says many of the people Romney is referring to are seniors or low-income workers who do pay federal payroll taxes.
"Those people need to know I respect their hard work and service to this country. So, those remarks were inappropriate. But I do believe that people want the fighting to stop. They want people who are going to be leaders," said Hochul.
Hochul's opponent in the upcoming election, Republican Chris Collins, was unavailable for comment. But a campaign spokesperson did say Collins, the former Erie County Executive, believes creating jobs and putting people back to work will address many problems.
