Federal Republican Primary; WNY candidates in the 27th Congressional District

Federal primary day in Western New York includes the Republican primary in the newly redrawn 27th Congressman District.

Former Erie County Executive Chris Collins facing David Bellavia, a former Iraq War veteran.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will run against democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul this November.

Polls close at 9 p.m.  For up to the minute results, you can log onto the Erie County Board of Elections.

Collins will be awaiting voting results with supporters at the Twin Village VFW Post 97 on  Lichfield Avenue, Depew.

Candidate Bellavia watches results starting  at the Clarion Hotel, 8250 Park Road, Batavia.

Bellavia and  Collins cast their ballots as they kept busy schedules Tuesday in a final get out the vote effort.  But despite their last-ditch efforts, light voter turnout is expected in the recently reconfigured 27th Congressional district.

“I think we're gonna hit that 20 percent or more,” said Collins.

"At the end of the day, what it's going to come down to is how many people we can bring out, and how many people he can bring out," said Bellavia.

Also in November, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will face Tuesday's winner of the three-way race among George Maragos, Wendy Long and Congressman Robert Turner.

Listen to WBFO & AM-970 News Tuesday evening for updates on the voting results and tune in Wednesday on Morning Edition.  Mike Desmond will report on results in the 27th Congressional District.
