Residents in upstate New York react to news of former President Trump's indictment. He won several counties there in the last two elections.

North Country Rep. Elise Stefanik has been in the national spotlight since the mass shooting Saturday that killed 10 people in a mostly Black neighborhood in Buffalo. National media outlets and some members of her own Republican party claim Stefanik has embraced replacement theory, the false idea that there’s a plot to outweigh white voters with non-white immigrants.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is on the minds of people in rural New York. Locals are worried about troop deployments and if gas and food prices will rise as a result of the conflict.

On Monday, more than 5,500 New Yorkers were hospitalized with COVID-19, the highest hospitalization since February. Hospitalizations are also on the rise in recent weeks among children, many of whom are still not vaccinated against COVID.

New York state is closing six correctional facilities.
