Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced a request for proposals for the redevelopment of the North Aud Block, the last remaining state-owned land parcel awaiting development at Buffalo's Canalside.
The nearly two-acre site, where Memorial Auditorium once stood, is under the control of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation. The ECHDC will distribute the $10 million already allocated by the state.
“The development of the North Aud Block is integral to connecting Canalside to Buffalo’s established business district and will further enhance the area as a vibrant, urban neighborhood," said ECHDC Chair Robert Gioia. "We look forward to reviewing thoughtful mixed-use development plans that fully explore this location’s potential.”
The corporation envisions the project will include restaurants, retail and office spaces, apartments, a hotel and structured parking blending the area's 19th-century street grid and heritage with modern day surroundings and infrastructure.
Proposals are due to the state by Sept. 1.
