Gasoline prices continue their quick upward climb, not only in Western New York, but also nationally.
The AAA of Western and Central New York said the national average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.53, up 4 cents from last week and 90 cents higher than this week a year ago.
In New York State, the average is now $3.75 a gallon, a rise of 7 cents in a week and $1.06 more than last year. The current Buffalo average price is $3.70 per gallon, an increase of 8 cents in a week.
Analysts said both gasoline supplies and demand are currently decreasing, although crude oil prices are going up.
Some of the reason is the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis. Russia is a member of OPEC, and any economic sanctions imposed because of its actions toward Ukraine could cause it to withhold crude oil from the global market.
