Veteran Buffalo attorney David Edmunds Jr. is now a Buffalo City Court judge.

Edmunds, 65, was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the appointment of City Court judge Debra Givens to the New York State Court of Claims and serve in the post until the term expires at the end of this year.

The new judge is an alumnus of Hutchinson Central Technical High School in the city. He graduated with a BA degree from the University of Rochester and earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

His legal career includes many leadership positions in various legal organizations, including vice president of the Minority Bar Foundation. For the past 11 years he has been deputy commissioner of the New York State Liquor Authority and was previously the deputy assistant attorney general-in-charge of the Buffalo Regional Office for the New York State Department of Law.

Edmunds is the ninth individual to be appointed to the City Court bench by Mayor Byron Brown since 2006.
