Off-duty Buffalo firefighter indicted in Erie County court for July homicide

New charges were presented Friday against a man identified by investigators as an off-duty Buffalo Firefighter accused in a deadly shooting.

Blake Banks, 24, was arraigned in Erie County Court on one count of second degree murder. He's accused of shooting 40-year-old Jason Johnson on Broadway near Bennett Street on July 20. Investigators say the shooting occurred during a dispute between the victim and suspect. The victim reportedly attempted to drive away but crashed his vehicle a short distance nearby. He was taken to ECMC, where he was pronounced dead.

Banks was previously arraigned in Buffalo City Court and remains held without bail. He is due back in court on September 10. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
