Nearly two decades after the events of 9-eleven, Roswell Park has been named a member of the World Trade Center Health Program provider network.

The designation makes Roswell a destination for Western and Central New York first responders dealing with health effects from the terrorist attacks on New York City.

Under the oversight of the CDC and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the program covers treatment for certified World Trade-related illnesses at no cost to the patient.

Research conducted by Roswell Park shows 9-eleven first responders have faced an assortment of health problems from exposure to heat, smoke and toxic flame retardants, putting them at risk for several forms of cancer.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Thomas moved to Western New York at the age of 14. A graduate of Buffalo State College, he majored in Communications Studies and was part of the sports staff for WBNY. When not following his beloved University of Kentucky Wildcats and Boston Red Sox, Thomas enjoys coaching youth basketball, reading Tolkien novels and seeing live music.
