EC200 year-long bicentennial celebration begins Friday

Erie County

Friday marks the 200th anniversary of the legal incorporation of Erie County. It also is the day the county will begin a year-long observation of the bicentennial, to be called EC200.

County Executive Mark Poloncarz said there will be programs, self-guided and group tours, musical performances, museum exhibits and more, with over 200 partners and volunteers taking part. He said EC200 will spotlight the county's history, and commemorate the hard working men and women who built what we know today.

The celebration has been in the planning stages for nearly two years and included Poloncarz; Erie County Historian Douglas Kohler; Buffalo History Museum Executive Director Melissa Brown; Buffalo and Erie County Public Library System Director Mary Jean Jakubowski; and local historical, cultural and community stakeholders, as well as hundreds of volunteers working on programming, marketing, inclusion and outreach.

You can watch Monday's official kick-off announcement below.
