Buffalo Zoo euthanizes Acacia the lion

Buffalo Zoo

The Buffalo Zoo has announced the death of Acacia the lion.

The Zoo said the 18-year-old big cat had to be euthanized because of deteriorating medical conditions. She had liver and spleen problems that could no longer be treated by veterinarians.

Acacia and her sister and littermate Shona came to the Buffalo Zoo in 2003, a year after their birth at the Como Zoo in St. Paul, MN. The Zoo said keepers are working to keep Shona active, with extra nourishment and extra attention.

Officials said Acacia spent most of her time on the left side of the Big Cat exhibit. Anyone who has favorite memories or photos of her can share them in the comment section of the Zoo's social media sites.
