'Do not drink' order lifted in Mayville

Water in the village of Mayville is now safe for drinking, cooking, and other household uses.
Residents had been under a ‘do not drink’ order for over two weeks since the environmental contaminant PFNA was discovered in the village’s water source. With help from Chautauqua County and the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the village now has a new well for water.

Officials are still working to flush more of the village’s storage tank to remove old water, as levels of the contaminant continue to go down. Residents who haven’t been using household plumbing are instructed to run their water until it is cold before using it for drinking or food preparation.

Bottled water continues to be available on a limited basis from the Village through January 4.
